Comfort James clinched gold medal in the 1,500 metres women’s event for team Akwa Ibom at the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
James, who was full of excitement during an interview with journalistsat the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo on Monday, attributed her success to hard work and determination.
She said that her focus would be to win in the world athletics championship coming up in Sept.
“I thank God for a successful outing today, it was as planned. I am really excited that I have been able to win the second gold medal for my state.
“I put a whole lot of training and hard work and the result is really showing, that I secured this gold for my state. I am actually looking forward to qualifying for world athletics championship in Sept.
NAN also reports that Immaculata Johnson, won silver for Akwa Ibom in the traditional wrestling 60kg event in the ongoing Niger Delta sports festival..
Speaking, Coach Orisakwe Nelly of Team Delta attributed their 4-2 victory in the women football event with Ondo to determination and team work.
Nelly told NAN that the young players came to the competition focused and determined to get victory in spite of the challenges they might encounter.
“It is just God as well as determination to win, we came for the gold and by the special grace of God we are going with the gold.
“It was hard work and we went for the younger ones and it has paid off because that was what NDDC requested for.
“We gave them the training and encouraged them to stay focused in the tournament, which they did.
“They never gave up throughout the game, not minding when it was 2-2 they kept on fighting till the end,” Nelly said.
The Team Delta Captain in the women football, Precious Alexandra, said that they work as a team to lift the gold medal.
“It can only be God and I believe with God everything is impossible, even when we’ve lost our strength we still believe in God for victory.
“It is about believing in oneself with love and unity. Without love and unity nothing is achievable, she said.
