NDLEA Busts Christmas Cookie Drug Syndicate Operating Through Social Media in Lekki

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered and dismantled a sophisticated social-media–based drug network that allegedly distributed illicit substances disguised as imported Christmas cookies and snacks to residents in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, revealing that operatives of the agency arrested two individuals believed to be the masterminds behind the criminal operation. According to him, the syndicate used online platforms to market the drug-laced products, targeting unsuspecting buyers during the festive season when demand for seasonal treats typically increases.

The suspects were tracked and apprehended in Lagos following intelligence gathering and a coordinated surveillance operation. Babafemi explained that the illicit items were cleverly packaged to look like premium Christmas treats, making them harder to detect and allowing the syndicate to push drugs into high-brow communities under the guise of holiday gifts.

He added that preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the agency is working to uncover more members of the network, as well as suppliers connected to the illegal distribution channel. The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying its crackdown on drug trafficking, especially as criminal groups devise new methods to beat security checks during the Yuletide season.

The agency urged the public to be vigilant and report suspicious deliveries or online vendors promoting unfamiliar festive products.
