The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
The decision was reached during the maiden edition of the party’s National Convention currently underway.
The motion was moved by Afam Victor Ogene, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly, and was subsequently adopted by delegates at the convention.
The party also resolved that after the completion of the single four-year term by a southern candidate, the presidential ticket would automatically be zoned to Northern Nigeria.
The resolution is expected to pave the way for former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and other southern aspirants to obtain the party’s presidential nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party officials say the zoning arrangement is aimed at promoting fairness, inclusion and balance in the nation’s political leadership.
