The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore CHRISTIAN ODOGWU EZEKOBE disclosed in a statement that the raid was carried out by naval personnel attached to FOB BONNY.
Commodore EZEKOBE said the patrol team destroyed the illegal refinery, which had several storage tanks loaded with unquantifiable amount of stolen crude oil.
A similar operation also paid off with the arrest of a barge suspected to be involved in COT at Creek 6 in Bonny Local Government Area.
The Naval spokesman said no arrest was made in both cases, as the suspects fled the scene on sighting the patrol team.
Furthermore; the statement disclosed that a Marine Tanker named Team Tango was arrested for conveying substances suspected to be dangerous cargoes.
The ship was tracked down with the help of Maritime Domain Awareness capability of the Nigerian Navy and is presently under interrogation.
