National Assembly Unveils Key Reforms in Electoral Act 2026

The National Assembly of Nigeria has outlined major reforms introduced in the Electoral Act 2026, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.

Among the key provisions are mandatory electronic transmission of election results, compulsory use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), the establishment of a dedicated fund for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and stricter regulations for political parties.

Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, disclosed this in a statement released by the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs in his office.

Bamidele said the new electoral framework was the outcome of two years of extensive consultations involving INEC, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), civil society organisations, and development partners.

He noted that the reforms are designed to enhance transparency, credibility, and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
