NAFDAC shuts down sub standard bakeries and sachet water factory in Rivers

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, South South Zonal Office, Cyril Monye, the makeshift bakeries, constructed from wood, corrugated iron sheets, and tarpaulin, were found operating in an unclean environment, with generators located inside the production rooms.

The operation was coordinated by the Coordinator of NAFDAC in Rivers State, Emmanuel Onogwu, who emphasized that the agency discovered the unregistered bakeries based on tips from concerned citizens and thorough investigations by NAFDAC’s enforcement unit.

Additionally, a sachet water factory along Mgboba-Choba road was shut down for operating in a facility not registered with NAFDAC and failing to adhere to standard best practices.

Expressing concern over the activities of unscrupulous producers of NAFDAC-regulated products, the state Coordinator condemned their disregard for rules and guidelines, reiterating NAFDAC’s unwavering commitment to its mandate of protecting public health.

Onogwu urged the public to continue providing NAFDAC with vital information that could lead to the apprehension and crackdown on unregistered producers, ensuring the safety of consumers across Rivers State.
