Lebanon is observing a day of national mourning over the killing of forty-one people in a twin suicide bomb attacks in the capital, Beirut. The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the bombings in a suburb of Burj al-Barajneh, which is a stronghold of Hezbollah forces that are fighting IS in Syria. In a speech in response to the worst bombing in Beirut since the end of Lebanon’s civil war in 1990, Prime Minister TAMMAM SALAM called for unity in the face of attempts to create strife.
