Las Vegas has been chosen to host the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on December 5, with the state-of-the-art Sphere set as the venue for the high-profile ceremony, multiple reports confirmed on Tuesday.
According to ESPN and Mexico’s TUDN, the draw will determine the groupings for the expanded 48-team tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A total of 12 groups, each comprising four nations, will be drawn during the event.
This will be the second time Las Vegas is hosting a World Cup draw, having previously staged the ceremony for the 1994 World Cup, the last time the United States was the main host.
In a related sports development, Nigeria’s athletics scene is heating up as foreign-based athletes, including sprinters Seye Ogunlewe and Adekalu Fakorede, arrive in Lagos for the Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s compulsory trials. The trials will determine the country’s representatives for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September, and the return of these top athletes promises a highly competitive selection event.
