Lagos Prosecutes Over 100 for Illegal Occupation of Road Medians

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that it prosecuted more than 100 persons in the last one year for illegally occupying road medians and violating environmental regulations across the state.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known during an inspection of the ongoing clearance of illegal traders and squatters from the Okokomaiko–Orile road median. He said the enforcement was aimed at permanently clearing the corridor, which has been designated for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project.

Wahab said the government had repeatedly engaged those occupying the median over the years, but warned that the state would continue strict enforcement to protect public infrastructure and preserve environmental standards. He also urged residents to dispose of waste properly and avoid dumping refuse on roads and other public spaces.
