This is because the Rivers State chapter of the Joint Public Negotiating Council has faulted the Rivers State government for not carrying the leadership of the council along in the ongoing biometric verification exercise.
State Chairman of the Council, CHUKWU EMECHETA accused the Head of Service and the Commissioner for Finance of insensitivity to the plight of workers.
EMECHETA said with the leadership of the union involved in the verification exercise, it would have been more effective.
The labour leader, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA, lamented that all efforts to reach the Head of Service to discuss ways to resolve the problem have not produced any result.
The Chairman of the Joint Public Negotiating Council disclosed that efforts will commence soon for an appropriate response by labour to issues affecting the well being of workers in Rivers State.
EMECHETA who doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress also noted that an agreement with the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide soft loans for workers has been stalled.
He said the delay was due to the inability of the Rivers State Head of Service to sign a memorandum of understanding with the bank.
