The Police Public Relations Officer, NNAMDI OMONI told our correspondent that detectives are still gathering evidence before a statement would be issued based on comprehensive findings.

The only tenant at the compound of the slain lawyer at Omuoko village at Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area claims that ATSUWETE was killed by kidnappers.

EMMANUEL ABAH, who hails from Benue State, told our correspondent that he was first abducted at gunpoint by the hoodlums riding on a motorcycle and taken to an unknown location.

ABAH said the hoodlums then asked him to call his landlord who later drove towards the location where he was being held before running into an ambush mounted by the same kidnappers.

One of KEN ATSUWETE’s neighbours, KINGSLEY SOTONYE who also spoke with our correspondent, said the area where they reside is notorious for insecurity.

SOTONYE said sporadic shooting is a common experience around Omuoko-Auu and inhabitants of the village always live in fear.

Meanwhile; security operatives have been deployed at late KEN ASUETE’s residence, as investigation continues to unravel the circumstance behind the killing.

Before the assassination last night, an associate of the slain lawyer said the deceased had complained about receiving several threatening anonymous phone calls and text messages.

Our source said the complain started after ATSUWETE sent a petition to the Inspector General of Police, requesting for a reopening of the 2015 political campaign murders in Okrika.

The assassination of ATSUWETE came three days after he appeared on radio to argue against the purported court order stopping INEC from releasing the rerun election results for Tai Local Government Area.

It may also interest you to note that KEN ATSUWETE was very instrumental in the defence team of embattled former Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government council, OJUKAYE FLAG AMACHREE, who is being prosecuted by the Rivers State Government on multiple murder charges.
