KAGOTE Condemns Attack on Ogoni Monarch, Demands Justice

The President of the Khana Graduates Overseas and Technical Experts (KAGOTE), Lesi Maol, has condemned the attempted murder of the Gbenemene of the Ancient Bangha Kingdom and Chairman of the Khana Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty King Suanu Baridam.

Maol described the attack, reportedly carried out by unknown gunmen in a community within Khana Local Government Area, as shocking and unacceptable, warning that it represents a direct assault on the traditional institution and the peaceful coexistence of the Ogoni people.

He cautioned that KAGOTE would not stand by while criminal elements seek to undermine peace and intimidate the people through acts of terror, stressing that no individual or group, regardless of influence or connections, has the right to desecrate Ogoni heritage or threaten the lives of its leaders.

The KAGOTE President called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the attack and ensure that all those involved, including sponsors and collaborators, are arrested and prosecuted. He emphasized that justice must be transparent and free from bias.

Maol also pledged KAGOTE’s full cooperation with security agencies and announced that a reward would be offered to anyone who provides credible information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

He further issued a stern warning to community leaders and traditional authorities across Ogoniland, urging them not to shield or harbor criminal elements.
