IYC mourns military personnel lost in ongoing Operation Crocodile Smile in Niger Delta region.

In what appears to be an endorsement of the Military Operation, the IYC National Executive Council also criticized those who have been condemning the engagement of the military in the Niger Delta.

Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt after the IYC NEC meeting, the National President, ELVIS DONKEMEZUO, said it was wrong for the military to be attacked for trying to sanitize the Niger Delta region of crime.

DONKEMEZUO commended the military and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. TUKUR BURATAI for introducing the ongoing operation crocodile smile in the area, adding that piracy and criminality was much in the region.

DONKEMEZUO stated that the operations was to rid the in the region of criminal elements, noting that crime on the creeks and waterways in recent times was at the increase.

The youth leader while urging the military to ensure they maintain the rules of the engagement in the operations, also charged residents of Niger Delta to give the military every needed support for the success of the operations

The IYC National President also condemned attacks by pirates on travelers along Bonny coastal line.

DONKEMEZUO called on the Federal Government to engage ethnic nationalities and community leaders in dialogue, as against militants.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the IYC also called for the setting up of a Brigade Command in Bayelsa State.
