INEC succumbs,postpone Edo guber polls

It is not clear the basis upon which INEC took its final decision, having initially declared that it was going ahead with the conduct of election despite unfavourable security report.

Meanwhile; Edo State Governor, ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE has expressed surprise at the postponement of the governorship election from this Saturday.

However; Governor OSHIOMHOLE said he could not challenge the security alert raised by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security Service.

The Edo State Governor also alleged that some criminals had infiltrated the state from Delta and Rivers states in a bid to cause problem during the election.

The Governor also expressed concern about the timing of the election on Saturday which coincides with the conduct of a national examination for students.

Shortly before the latest announcement of a delay; INEC National Commissioner, Prince SOLOMON ATOYEBI, had told stakeholders in Benin City that the commission had gone too far in its preparations to shift the date of the election.

It is expected that the Edo State Governorship election will not hold anytime earlier than two weeks from the initial date.
