The INC also wants government to be mindful of individuals and groups it intends to enter into negotiations with on behalf of people of the Niger Delta.
The pro-Ijaw group also used the occasion of a media briefing in Port Harcourt to distance itself from any government engaged with Niger Delta people through Chief EDWIN CLARK, King ALFRED DIETE-SPIFF and the Minister of Transport, ROTIMI AMAECHI.
According to the President of INC, ALATUBO CHARLES-HARRY, it was better for government to engage with groups that are permanent and have successor mechanism.
CHARLES HARRY noted that temporary groups can only achieve temporary relief, which he said had been the reason for previous failed attempt at resolving the Niger Delta crisis.
The President of the Ijaw National Congress also expressed concern over the proliferation of militant groups in Niger Delta.
He equally warned against making unguarded statements and threats in regards to dealing with issues affecting the oil bearing region, including the deployment of the military to go after militants.
Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the Ijaw National Congress also slammed the Federal Government over the handling of the case of money laundering through banks accounts allegedly linked to former First Lady, Dame PATIENCE JONATHAN.
The INC observed that the action of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in freezing the bank accounts Dame JONATHAN was bringing disrepute to the name of former president, GOODLUCK JONATHAN.
