IGP Egbetokun: Over 11,500 Police Personnel Recalled After Presidential Order on VIP Security

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that a total of 11,566 police personnel have so far been withdrawn from VIP security duties in line with the presidential directive aimed at strengthening national security.

Egbetokun made the disclosure on Thursday during the Strategic Police Managers Conference in Abuja, where he noted that the Nigeria Police Force had fully activated the recall process and commenced the redeployment of affected officers to critical and underserved communities across the country.

According to the IGP, the move is part of ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust, improve the police-to-citizen ratio, and enhance the Force’s visibility in communities grappling with security challenges.

He added that the reallocation of manpower will boost operational capacity at divisional and area command levels, ensuring that more officers are available for patrol, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations.

The IGP further reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to implementing the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that the Nigeria Police will continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of citizens over private VIP protection arrangements.
