Governor WIKE observed that without adequate protection, Nigeria’s democracy faced the risk of being crushed by those he described as desperate politicians.

The Governor made the observation in a speech welcoming delegates to the Bar Conference in Port Harcourt in his capacity as Chairman of the Local Organising Committee.

Governor WIKE said the practice of true democracy should be able to grow the economy of the country, as well as promote rule of law and equal opportunities to all citizens.

WIKE noted that those basic principles of democracy have been lacking under the APC Administration of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

The Rivers State Governor also blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission for the lack of representatives at the National Assembly due to delayed legislative rerun elections.

Governor NYESOM WIKE accused INEC of accepting results of the rerun in Tai Local Government Area, after initially suspending the elections on 19th of March.

Governor WIKE vowed that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and its supporters would resist the Tai rerun results in favour of the All Progressives Congress.
