Geologist Warns Port Harcourt Residents of Heavier July Rains

An environmental geologist has advised residents of Port Harcourt to prepare for heavier rainfall this month, attributing the increase in downpours to global warming and other environmental factors.

Dr. Giadom Ferdinand said rising sea-surface temperatures in the Eastern Pacific are contributing to significant changes in global climate patterns, resulting in more intense rainfall.

He also expressed concern over the recurring flooding experienced across the city during heavy rains, urging the government to implement long-term drainage and infrastructure improvements.

The University of Port Harcourt geology lecturer further blamed poor waste disposal practices for worsening floods, warning that blocked drains would continue to inundate streets unless residents adopt better environmental habits.
