Fubara Says Army Day Celebration Counters Negative Narratives About Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the decision by the Nigerian Army to host the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Port Harcourt has helped counter what he described as negative narratives and sponsored campaigns aimed at portraying Rivers State in a bad light.

Speaking at the grand finale of the Army’s 163rd Anniversary Celebration held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt after a week-long programme of activities, Governor Fubara commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism, growth in manpower development, improved training and the adoption of modern technology to enhance its operational effectiveness.

The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for providing the support and resources needed to strengthen the Nigerian Army, noting that such investments have improved the military’s capacity to address security challenges across the country.

Governor Fubara reaffirmed the Rivers State Government’s commitment to working closely with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to sustain peace and security in the state. He also called for improved welfare packages for officers and soldiers, stressing that better welfare would boost their morale and enhance their performance.

The event was attended by top military officials, including Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, Chiefs of Army Staff from 16 African countries, former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo, traditional rulers and other distinguished guests.
