Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the upgrade and renovation of facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Nonwa Tai.
The governor made the announcement during a meeting with the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Governor Fubara said the large number of corps members deployed to Rivers State reflects the state’s peaceful and welcoming environment.
He directed the Secretary to the State Government to immediately assess the facility needs at the camp and submit a report for prompt action. The governor also assured that the state will provide office space for the newly established NYSC regional office and either relocate or remodel the current NYSC State Secretariat to enhance administrative operations.
Earlier, the NYSC Director-General explained that his visit was part of a nationwide inspection tour of orientation camps. He revealed that 2,586 corps members of the 2025 Batch C are currently undergoing orientation in Rivers State.
Brigadier General Nafiu also appealed to the governor to reconstitute the state and local government NYSC governing boards to strengthen the scheme’s operations and improve support for corps members across the state.
