Fresh Faction Emerges in Rivers TUC Leadership Crisis

Just 48 hours after the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers State announced a new leadership, a fresh faction has declared its own chairman, deepening the ongoing leadership tussle within the organisation.

Addressing journalists, Samuel Ogan insisted that he remains the authentic chairman of the TUC in Rivers State, citing his election on October 30, 2025. He stated that more than twenty affiliate unions participated in the election and claimed he has received formal recognition from the TUC national headquarters in Abuja.

Ogan dismissed the claim by Udoka Ugochukwu, who also announced himself as chairman. He said Ugochukwu did not contest for the chairmanship position but rather for the office of secretary, and therefore has no basis to assert leadership over the congress.

He urged the Rivers State Government, security agencies, and affiliate unions to be cautious, warning that under TUC rules, no two affiliate groups can form separate labour centres within a state.
