Former Chief of Defence Staff, ALEX BADEH, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja in the sum of two billion naira.
Justice OKON ABANG granted the bail in a short ruling earlier today, which also requires BADEH to present two sureties in the sum of one billion naira each.
Justice ABANG said the two sureties must reside in Abuja, while BADEH must surrender his international passport to the court.
Also, the sureties must own landed properties within the Federal Capital Territory, which must have valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The bail conditions provide that the Chief Registrar of the court must authenticate the ownership and value of the properties.
The trial judge granted the bail under section 36, subsection 5 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which presumes an accused person innocent until proven guilty.Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that former Defence Chief ALEX BADEH is accused of diverting three point nine billion naira meant for the Nigerian Air Force.
