FIFA also slammed a life ban on Ghanaian referee JOSEPH LAMPTEY for match manipulation, after it was found that he wrongfully awarded a penalty against Senegal.
LAMPTEY had awarded a penalty to South Africa for handball but FIFA said replays showed the ball hit Senegal’s defender KALIDOU KOULIBALY on the knee.
The qualifier between Senegal and South Africa would be replayed during the November international window later this year.
Meanwhile; a senior member of the South African Football Association has said the FIFA decision was not acceptable.
NORMAN ARENDSE, who heads the legal committee of SAFA, said the association had no details of the alleged match manipulation.
Senegal and South Africa are currently third and fourth respectively in Group D of the African qualifiers, behind Burkina Faso and Cape Verde Islands.
