FG Dismisses Claims of Genocide Against Christians

The Federal Government has dismissed allegations that terrorists in Nigeria are carrying out a systematic genocide against Christians, describing such claims as “false, baseless, despicable, and divisive.”

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in a statement, stressed that Nigeria’s security challenges are complex and cut across religious, ethnic, and regional lines. He said portraying the situation as a deliberate campaign against Christians amounts to a gross misrepresentation of reality and risks inflaming tensions in the country.

Mr. Idris noted that the government is committed to tackling insecurity in all its forms, whether perpetrated by terrorists, bandits, or criminal groups, and assured that no community or religious group is being deliberately targeted. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security agencies, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance collaboration with local communities to restore peace nationwide.

The minister also urged political, religious, and community leaders to avoid making inflammatory statements capable of dividing the country along religious lines, insisting that unity and cooperation are essential in overcoming Nigeria’s security challenges.
