FG Approves New Imprest Limits for Ministers, Top Officials

The Federal Government has approved new imprest limits for Ministers and other top management officials across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The limits, approved by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, are outlined in the 2025 General Imprest Warrant. The warrant aligns with Financial Regulation No. 1003, which authorizes Accounting Officers across all arms of government to approve disbursements to designated imprest holders.

According to the approved limits, Ministers are entitled to N700,000, while Permanent Secretaries and Director-Generals will receive N500,000. Directors and Heads of Departments are to receive N300,000, and Heads of Formations in each state, as well as other authorized officials, are allocated N100,000.

The financial regulation also stipulates that reimbursements for standing imprest will be processed once per quarter. However, in exceptional cases, reimbursements may be allowed a second time within the same quarter.
