Environmental expert Andah Wai-Ogosu has expressed hope that the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology will contribute significantly to addressing the environmental challenges facing Ogoniland—provided it is properly managed.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, Wai-Ogosu said the institution has the potential to develop a comprehensive blueprint that could enhance the ongoing environmental remediation being carried out by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).
He urged the university’s management to collaborate with the Center for Excellence and prioritize research aimed at tackling the region’s long-standing issues of pollution and environmental degradation.
Wai-Ogosu stressed that the university should not only serve as an academic center but also as a solution hub for one of Nigeria’s most environmentally impacted communities.
