A former Chairman of the MOSOP Transitional Ruling Council, Keeper Gbarnor, has raised concerns over the competence and integrity of contractors executing water projects for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) in Ogoniland.
In an interview with our correspondent, Gbarnor described the recent collapse of two HYPREP water facilities as “worrisome,” noting that such incidents undermine public confidence in the agency’s remediation efforts.
He attributed the failures to what he called lapses in HYPREP’s monitoring department, alleging inadequate supervision and poor enforcement of quality standards during project execution.
Gbarnor urged HYPREP to thoroughly profile and scrutinize contractors before awarding future contracts, stressing that only credible and experienced firms should be allowed to handle critical infrastructure in Ogoniland.
