This is because the opposition campaign against President MADURO has succeeded in gathering one percent of voter signatures in all twenty-four of Venezuela’s states.
The election council confirmed that MADURO’s opponents had cleared the threshold of obtaining two hundred thousand valid signatures on a petition demanding a recall referendum.
However; the council did not set a date for the next stage of the lengthy recall process, which would require the opposition to collect four million signatures in just three days.
Meanwhile; a fresh twist has been added to the controversy, with the Supreme Court suspending opposition activity in the parliament.
The move is to pave the way for the removal of three opposition members who are being investigated for alleged vote-buying.
