EFCC says it has recovered N409b,$69m in 2017.

Acting Chairman of EFCC, IBRAHIM MAGU, said the anti-graft agency also recovered over two hundred and thirty one thousand British pounds, as well as over six hundred and ten thousand Euros, among several other monies in foreign currencies.

The funds include seven point seven billion naira allegedly linked to former Petroleum Minister, DIEZANI ALLISON-MADUEKE, which was secured through a final forfeiture order by a court in Lagos, as well as another order for temporary forfeiture of over twenty-on million dollars properties also linked to her.

He said over three hundred and twenty billion naira was also recovered from a group of oil marketers for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation over a month ago.

MAGU made the disclosures during a media briefing as part of his ongoing interface with critical stakeholders, of which he said the media is considered the most important ally of the EFCC in the fight against corruption.

He said it would be naïve for anyone to expect the fight against corruption to be smooth; stressing that resistance and opposition which are expressed in various guises are expected.

IBRAHIM MAGU said he was not personally after anyone, as had been reported in the media, adding that those who think they have issues with his would soon discover that he means no harm.

The Acting Chairman of EFCC said his driving force is the passion to do what is right by ensuring that corruption is fought to a standstill in Nigeria.

He said within the period between January and August this year, the EFCC secured one hundred and thirty-seven convictions in corruption cases.

In the remaining four months till the end of this year, MAGU said there are potentials for improvement by the EFCC, as more cases are brought to conclusion.
