Cyclone Debbie wrecks north-eastern coast of Australia

Reports say Cyclone Debbie made landfall between Bowen and Airlie Beach in Queensland as a category four storm, driven by up to two hundred and sixty-three kilometres of wind per hour.

The cyclone is now moving inland as a category two storm but could cause damage for hours yet.

Prime Minister MALCOLM TURNBULL has told parliament that he had activated a disaster response plan.

TURNBULL said conditions have deteriorated rapidly, adding that people are advised to take care and stay safe until Wednesday.
