Cultists Kill Community Chief in Rivers State, Police Confirm

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a community chief by suspected cultists in Obelle, Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident on Sunday, identifying the victim as Ferdinand Dabiri, Vice Chairman of the Obelle Council of Chiefs.

Contrary to initial reports suggesting multiple fatalities, police confirmed that Chief Dabiri was the sole casualty in the Saturday attack. He was reportedly shot twice by a suspected cult leader known as “Cairo” while attending a meeting with fellow chiefs.

The incident caused panic in the community, forcing other chiefs to flee the meeting venue, while some residents have also abandoned the area out of fear.

The chief’s second son, Joseph Eze Dabiri, also confirmed the killing in a telephone conversation with our reporter.
