The Executive Director of We The People, Ken Henshaw made the call when he led some members of the coalition of Civil Society groups to protesting Rumuekpe people in collaboration with members of Association of Niger Delta Upland Communities, a protest which has entered fifteenth day.
Henshaw expressed concern that an oil producing community like Rumuekpe community will be experiencing the level of underdevelopment, hardship and suffering been experienced by the people.
Henshaw while expressing their support for the protesters, accused the international multinational of subjecting their host communities into poverty, insisting that federal government must as a matter of urgency intervene to amminorate the suffering of the people.
Earlier in an interview with Today FM Uchendu Ejiowhor, the President of Association of Niger Delta Upland Communities, Isa Mohammed-Obiri accused the international multinational of diverting hijack of the surveillance contract in the area by indigenes of Riverine communities.
The leader of the protesters while complaining of lack of basic social amenities from the International oil companies said they are ready for negotiation that will ensure that the documents of the survilliance contract and other demands of the upland communities.
Today FM correspondent who was at the protest scene reports that earlier, military personnel had invaded the protest scene, destroyed the conopies, chairs and made away with sound system belonging to the protesters.
