Court sentences driver for transportation of illegal petroleum product

 Obameiye was sentenced after pleading guilty to one- count charge bordering on illegal dealing in petroleum products upon his arraignment by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The convict is reported to have on the 27th April, 2018 along Port Harcourt-Aba express road in Port Harcourt, dealt in petroleum products which was loaded and transporting substandard automotive Gas Oil thereby committing an offence contrary to Section eighteen of the Miscellaneous offences Act of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement said the trial Judge, Justice P. M. Ayuba convicted and sentenced Obameiye to two years imprisonment with an option of fine of two hundred and fifty thousand naira payable into the Federal Government’s Account.

Justice Ayuba also ordered the truck involved in the offence to be released to its owner and the twenty one drums of illegally refined AGO, arrested with the convict sold by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court in conjunction with EFCC officials.
