A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the emergence of Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The suit was instituted by one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Kings Unyeawaji, who alleged that he was unfairly excluded from the party’s governorship primary.
When the matter came up for hearing, the plaintiff, through his counsel, applied to discontinue the case. The application was not opposed by the defendants, prompting the presiding judge, Justice Muhammed Turaki, to dismiss the suit.
Speaking after the ruling, counsel to Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Ibim Dokubo, said the dismissal had effectively removed all legal obstacles to his client’s candidacy.
Reacting to the judgment, Dumo Lulu-Briggs welcomed the court’s decision, describing it as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The suit had listed the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Dumo Lulu-Briggs as defendants.
