The recognition for the Colombian President is based on his landmark peace deal with the Farc rebel group to end the world’s longest insurgency which had raged for fifty-two years.

Although the peace deal was narrowly rejected by majority of Mexicans in a referendum last weekend, the Norwegian Nobel Committee still praised JUAN MANUEL SANTOS for signing the agreement last month after four years of negotiations.

The Committee chairwoman, KACI KULLMANN FIVE said the award should also be seen as a tribute to the Colombian people.

The insurgency in Mexico led by Farc rebels has claimed the life of about two hundred and sixty thousand people, and displaces more than six million others.
