Some Port Harcourt-based clergymen have criticized the recently passed Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Amendment Bill, 2026, which proposes a N50,000 fine for anyone found preaching inside a commercial vehicle.
Speaking on the development, Pastor Obinna Mbadike of His Purpose Assembly described the bill as a misplaced priority, arguing that it does not address the pressing challenges facing Nigerians.
He said lawmakers should focus on tackling economic hardship, insecurity and underdevelopment instead of restricting religious activities in commercial vehicles. According to him, such a move could contribute to increased crime by denying people the opportunity to hear messages that inspire positive change and repentance.
Pastor Mbadike maintained that many individuals had transformed their lives after listening to the word of God while commuting, urging the Senate to reconsider and review the proposed legislation.
Also reacting, Pastor Finbarrs Onyeike accused senators of failing to protect the interests of Nigerians, alleging that they were more concerned about themselves and President Bola Tinubu than the welfare of the people.
Pastor Onyeike argued that lawmakers should have consulted their constituents before taking a decision on such a sensitive issue. He further expressed concern over Nigeria’s electoral process, claiming that if votes truly counted, Nigerians would reject representatives who fail to defend the interests of the people.
