Enefa Georgewill, Chairman of a prominent Civil Society organization in Rivers State, has raised concerns over recent reports of secret tax impositions on traders across Obio Akpor, Port Harcourt City Local Government, Eleme, and other areas within the state.
Georgewill alleged that the taxes are being quietly enforced on small and medium-scale businesses, raising fears that this move could be part of a deliberate effort to weaken these vital economic sectors. He condemned the actions, suggesting that such clandestine measures threaten the livelihoods of traders and undermine the state’s economic stability.
The Civil Society leader also criticized the recent actions of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, describing the tax imposition as potentially another plot to cripple small and medium enterprises in the region. He called for transparency and due process in taxation policies to ensure that traders are not unfairly targeted or unduly burdened.
The Rivers state Government have yet to issue an official statement regarding these allegations.
