The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, will lead the country’s delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which open on Monday, October 13, in Washington D.C., United States.
According to an official statement, Cardoso, who serves as the Alternate Governor for Nigeria at the Bretton Woods institutions, will represent the country in place of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who is currently indisposed.
The Nigerian delegation will also include the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the CBN, and the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The annual meetings, which attract finance ministers, central bank governors, and global economic leaders, provide a platform for discussions on international monetary cooperation, economic development, and policies aimed at ensuring financial stability and growth among member countries.
Mr. Cardoso is expected to participate in a series of high-level sessions and bilateral engagements focused on global economic trends, debt sustainability, monetary policy coordination, and investment opportunities in emerging economies. He is also scheduled to present updates on Nigeria’s economic reforms and efforts by the Tinubu administration to stabilize the naira, curb inflation, and attract foreign investment.
Observers say Nigeria’s participation at this year’s meetings is particularly significant, as the country continues to grapple with economic challenges, including foreign exchange volatility, rising inflation, and fiscal constraints. The forum is expected to provide opportunities for dialogue with international partners on financial support, policy collaboration, and private sector investment.
The World Bank and IMF meetings will run through the week, featuring plenary sessions, policy roundtables, and side events that will shape the global economic agenda for the coming year.
