While acknowledging that infrastructure is very critical to the development of the country, Uwais said there are others issues including poverty, education among others that also require attention.

Speaking during a television programme, Uwais who suggested that the politics of addressing the rate of out-of-school children is not encouraging, stressed that despite all government interventions so far, there seems to be very little progress recorded regarding the number of children recorded out of school.

According to a report by the United Nations Education Fund, about ten point five million of the country’s children aged five to fourteen years are not in school.

The report also shows that only sixty one percent of 6 to eleven years-olds regularly attend primary school and only thirty five point six per cent of children aged thirty six to fifty nine months receive early childhood education.
