Residents of the community during a protest expressed worries over the incessant cases of oil spills as a result of system failure of the facilities owned and managed by the SPDC.
One of the residents of the community,Richard Giadom who spoke on behalf of the youths in an interview with Today FM’s Olawale Sanusi, said they have been living in fear over a possible fire outbreak.
Also speaking during the protest, an environmental activist,Douglas Fabeke said the incident would have been avoided if the SPDC and the Federal Ministry of Environment as well as the Hydro Carbon Pollution and Remediation Project had carried out a proper and comprehensive cleanup of Ogoni land in line with the recommendations of the United Nations Environmental Programm report.
Some of the protesters who are mostly farmers and fishermen also narrated their ordeals while calling on the federal and state government to come to their aid.
