Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson ahead of the 2027 general election.
Okonkwo announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday, expressing gratitude to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him. He described the appointment as a reflection of Atiku’s leadership style, saying the former vice president prefers dialogue and compromise when associates raise concerns over party decisions.
The appointment comes weeks after Okonkwo publicly criticised the party’s choice of vice-presidential candidate, warning that it could further marginalise the South-East. However, he said subsequent discussions with Atiku and other ADC leaders had addressed the region’s concerns within the realities of the Electoral Act and the current political climate.
