Brigadier General Wiito Nzidee, Acting Director of Supply and Transport Services at Army Headquarters, Department of Army Logistics (DOAL), made this appeal while leading a sensitization team to Rivers State to promote the ongoing Nigerian Army 88 Regular Intake for trades/non-tradesmen and women.
Speaking at a media conference titled “Army Headquarters Sensitization and Advertisement for 88 Regular Recruitment” at the Garrison Command of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brigadier General NZIDEE revealed that Rivers State currently has the lowest representation in Army recruitment among South-South states, expressing concern that the state is not fully utilizing its recruitment quota.
He further disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is particularly concerned about the low representation of Rivers indigenes in the Army, which has made him send a the team to the state to raise awareness and encourage local youths to seize the opportunity to join the military through the ongoing recruitment exercise.
The Commander of the 6 Division Garrison Command, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, also emphasized the numerous benefits awaiting Niger Delta youths who choose to pursue a career in the military.
In a separate visit to the office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, the sensitization team was warmly received by the SSG, Tammy Danagogo, who pledged that the state will collaborate with the Army to spread the recruitment message to the grassroots level.
However, Danagogo also expressed concern that Niger Delta youths are often overlooked during admissions into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), urging Brigadier General Nzidee and his team to increase advocacy and engagement when NDA forms are released.
Today’s FM, Olawale Sanusi, reports that Brigadier General Nzidee and his team will continue their sensitization efforts by touring local government areas in Rivers State tomorrow.
