The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arrested Obiano at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday, a few hours after he handed over to the new governor, Charles Soludo.
In a statement in Awka, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife, said the party urged the anti-graft agency not to detain him for longer than necessary.
Madukaife said that although, neither Obiano nor his successor, Soludo, had said anything about the financial transactions of Anambra State, the people are watching with an open mind.
He also berated the state assembly on their failure to provide the checks and balances in the last administration, which he said led to many loopholes in the system.
