AMEED ALI was supposed to provide explanation to the
Senate about the now-aborted policy on retrogressive
enforcement on import duty payment for vehicles plying
Nigerian roads.
ALI appeared before the Senate in plenary spotting a white
caftan in defiance of the demand by the Senate for him to wear
his official customs uniform.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that when the
question was put to the Customs Boss why he decided not to
wear his uniform, HAMEED ALI demanded to know from the
Senate whether he was in breach of any law for choosing not to
wear the customs uniform.
At the end of the session; the Senators were not satisfied with
the explanations and resolved to invite HAMEED ALI for a
second time on Wednesday next week.
The Senators also insisted that the Comptroller General of
Customs must wear his official uniform, while reprimanding
him to lead the customs service by example.
