The meet, which is the season opening event of the AFN, saw young athletes strive hard to clock favourable timings.
Mercy Ntia Obong clocked a season’s best of 11.70s to win the women’s 100m, beating Rashidat Lawal who was 2nd in 11.81s, and third-placed Blessing Adiakherewa in 12.00s.
In the men’s final, Harry Chukwudike, who last week won the NUGA trials while representing the University of Port Harcourt, raced to a time of 10.48s, while Emmanuel Arowolo finished 2nd in 10.53s and Chukwudi Olisakwe 3rd in 10.58s.
The women’s 100m Hurdles saw Grace Ayemoba beating Esther Isa to win in 14.27s, while in the 110m Hurdles, Precious Ojiekere ran the fastest time of all the heats, winning heat 3 in 14.06s.
Abiola Olajide won men’s Triple Jump with a mark of 15.82m, as Nzube Ihezue finished 2nd with 15.44m and Meyiwa Ine finished 3rd with 15.16m.
Speaking after the event, technical director of the AFN, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, praised the athletes for the zeal shown during the meet.
