The Boko Haram is now under the control of its former spokesman, ABU MUSAB AL-BARNAWI, but the announcement by the Islamic State did not say anything about the former leader, ABUBAKAR SHEKAU.
The last time a voice that claimed to be SHEKAU was heard in an audio message was in August last year, refuting media reports that he had been replaced.
If the latest announcement is confirmed, ABU MUSAB AL-BARNAWI will become the third person to head the Boko Haram terrorist group since it was formed.
You will recall that the first Boko Haram leader, MUHAMMAD YUSUF, died in police custody in July 2009.
