The improvements in the multispectral response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government of Nigeria has decided that there will be a phased and gradual easing of the lockdown in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital effective from Monday, 4th May, 2020.
Among other measures for the easing of the lockdown are the mandatory use of non-medical face mask and covering for all persons while in public spaces.
Latex hand gloves should not be worn except for specific medical purposes and there should be mandatory provision of handwashing facilities/sanitizers in all public places.
The taskforce insisted that all interstate travel remain prohibited except for essential travels and services such as transportation of agricultural products, petroleum products, relief items, goods commodities related to the COVID-19 response and persons on essential duty.
Social distancing of two metres must be maintained between people in workplaces and other public spaces, while Mass gathering of more than twenty people outside of a workplace is prohibited as much as control access to markets and locations of economic activities will be enforced.
According to the guideline signed by the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce, Boss Mustapha, the overnight curfew imposed nationwide from 8pm to 6am subsists while Intra-state travel using public transport- buses, tricycles, taxis within State borders must ensure provision of hand sanitizers to all passengers and mandatory use of face mask.
The guideline maintained that all schools to remain closed till further evaluation while Schools are encouraged to continue with e-learning and visual teaching just as they enjoined state Governments and Security Agencies to ensure effective and strict enforcement of the guidelines, stating that the level of compliance will be reviewed in two weeks before additional guidelines for phase.
