Thousands displaced as Flood gulps Benue state.

The affected areas include Achusa, Idye, Wurukum Market, Genabe, Industrial Layout, Demekpe, Wadata Market, Katungu, as well as behind the Civil Service Commission and Agboughul-Wadata.

 

 

The Federal Government has intervened, with President MUHAMMADU BUHARI directing the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to assist the flood victims.

 

 

This was made known in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam GARBA SHEHU.

 

 

The statement noted that it was with great concern that President BUHARI received reports of the flooding in Benue State.

 

 

SHEHU said the President was closely monitoring the situation, and would be receiving regular updates on the scale of the disaster, as well as the Federal Government’s humanitarian response.

 

 

He said the President equally extends his sympathies to the Government and people of Benue State, and assures that the Federal Government will make available any assistance needed to deal with the natural disaster.

 

 

Meanwhile; the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BONIFACE ORTESE, said over two thousand, seven hundred and sixty-nine households are affected by the flood.
