This followed what officials have described as the biggest rainstorm in the history of the state of Texas.
Officials said more than thirty inches of rain has fallen on parts of the city over weekend, turning main roads into rivers.
More rainfall is expected during the week, with a forecast of a deluge by a year’s rainfall over the next couple of days.
Reports say rescue services have been overstretched as the rain continues, leaving many people to fend for themselves.
Meanwhile; hundreds of roads have been closed across the city, many schools have also been shut down, with hospitals evacuated and thousands of people are without electricity.
