Iraqi Prime Minister HAIDER AL-ABADI quoted military sources confirming that Islamic State militants blew up the Great Mosque of al-Nuri and its famous leaning minaret as pro-government troop gain more grounds in the raging battle for Mosul.
However; the militant group is shifting the blame for the destruction of the ancient mosque to United States warplane which it said blew up the complex, but the US has denied the claim.
